East Midlands Chamber of Commerce supports young people’s campaign
East Midlands Chamber of Commerce have pledged to support the #AccessYourTruePotential campaign to make the world of work accessible for young people.
The campaign was launched earlier this year by the peer panel at Access Generation CIC.
The peer panel of 18-30 year olds at the social enterprise created the campaign to highlight young people’s top concerns when applying for jobs online.
The campaign has two parts; a petition encouraging other young people and supporters to back the cause and a pledge encouraging employers to make a commitment to change.
Employers are invited to make a pledge to;
- Embrace diversity and inclusion
- Create entry-level roles
- State when feedback is available
- Provide examples of progression
- Acknowledge receipt of all applications
Lucy Robinson, HR Director at East Midlands Chamber of Commerce, said: “I am delighted to be supporting Access Generation’s peer panel campaign. It is important for businesses across the East Midlands to understand what it takes to make themselves an attractive employer to the next generation to keep their business and the region flourishing.
“I would encourage others to learn more about the social enterprise and get involved in their activities.”
Lucy is championing the chambers new young professional membership, Generation Next, and will be supporting the social enterprise’s Gen @ Work programme.
The Gen @ Work programme, which has received funding from the government’s Coronavirus Community Support Fund distributed by The National Lottery Community Fund, is providing care leavers with real-world work experience.
Young care leavers will be working on a project brief for the chambers.
Jemma Redden, director at Access Generation, said: “Giving young people a chance to experience work and a chance to compete in what is likely to be a competitive labour market is really important.
“Having a live brief from an employer will truly give our young people that opportunity. I would welcome other employers to get in touch to be involved.”
